For steel flasks: It's best not to put a steel flask in the dishwasher either, and again, to use mild soapy water or bicarb. You can also mix a teaspoon of uncooked rice with a big splash of distilled white vinegar or lemon juice and shake it around before rinsing to remove odours and any bits stuck inside.
For both materials, you should avoid leaving alcohol inside the flask for more than a day or two, and after cleaning, leave it to air dry completely with the lid off. Before you use it again, swill it out with cold water.
