Thanks to built-in sensors and phone tracking abilities, it will automatically turn off when it senses that you're away from home and no one else is present. We also think it's one of the more stylish options out there, so it's an all-around winner!

If you're looking to pick up a smart thermostat to kick off a whole smart ecosystem then Hive is a great brand to choose. As well as heating, Hive makes a whole range of smart products, including smart plugs and security measures.

We surely don't need to explain who Google are, but you may not be aware of the fact that they manufacture some of the best smart home products on the market. The Nest E is their stripped-down, easy to install and budget-friendly thermostat.

Taking most people less than a minute to set up, the Nest E is one of the easiest options to get up and running out of the box. If you can't quite stretch to the flagship Nest model, then you won't be disappointed with this!

Marketed as a more budget-friendly version of their flagship thermostats, it may be worth spending a little more to get the full experience. This is especially true as, if you're really on a tight budget, this still seems a little pricy when compared to other "lite" models.

The Netatmo Smart Thermostat ticks all the right boxes when it comes to features. Compatible with all the big brands, and with a further option for zonal heating down the line, this makes a great replacement for any old mechanical thermostats you may have at home.

It even has basic learning functions, capable of measuring the outside temperature to predict an efficient shut off time. However, installation does seem to be a bit more complicated than others, with confusing instructions. So it may be worth paying extra for the expert installation.

Honeywell is one of the few brands that are compatible with Apple HomeKit. Simple to use, install, and understand, you're free to move their wireless option around the home as you see fit thanks to its handy stand.

The Honeywell Home app is a pleasure to use and its intuitive geofencing capability is a fantastic way of saving money on your energy bill, as it senses when you're away from home and lowers the temperature accordingly. If you're working with Apple products it's a great purchase, but those who use other systems may find more value elsewhere.

The KETOTEK WiFi thermostat provides the basic functions of a smart thermostat at a great low price. It is compatible with Alexa and Google Home and can be controlled via a smartphone app. 

The bargain price does mean you lose a lot of the additional functionality, though, with no sensors, zonal control or smart learning. If you're just after something basic to control from your phone though, this is a great deal!

There's a lot to like about the Honeywell ecohome, it's a great option if you're looking for zonal control or use the Apple ecosystem. It also works with underfloor heating and is incredibly cheap when compared with others.

If you're looking for something aesthetically pleasing, you may be disappointed as the design of the control panel and radiator units, should you opt for them in the future, aren't the most attractive. But, if you're all about function over form, you will get a lot of mileage.
