Body sprays are great for freshening up without the intensity of eau de toilette and eau de parfum, but with such a wide variety of both designer and affordable sprays for men, it can be hard to find the best one. It's important to choose a scent that matches your taste perfectly, after all, smells are one of the first things that we notice about one another.
We researched the market to find out which body sprays are trending and how to know what they smell of when shopping online. Of course, there are many different scents available with each blend being unique to the brand. Luckily, we've found a mix of fresh, woodsy, and floral body sprays for men from brands like Adidas, Superdry and Dior, all available from Amazon, eBay, John Lewis and Boots.
Quick List - Top Body Sprays for Men
A recommendation service that carefully researches each product and consults with experts across many disciplines. We are constantly creating new content to provide the best shopping experience from choosing ‘cosmetics’ to ‘food and drink’, ‘home appliances’ to ‘kids and baby’ products, reaching users all across the United Kingdom.
Seeing as it doesn't need to perform like an antiperspirant, the most important thing when shopping for body spray is to choose one that smells good and suits your tastes. This can be difficult when shopping online, but we've made sure to lay everything out on the table with as many descriptions as possible so that you can practically smell the scents as you browse.
Woody fragrances, as the name suggests, are deeper and more natural, characterised by aromatic, crisp notes of patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood, and musk. Woodsy body sprays are versatile with a neutral fragrance that you could wear to both the office and a nightclub.
Fresh scents can be described as fruity, citrusy and clean. They're made up of fun, bright fragrances like bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, and ginger. Fresh scents are summery and great for an energising boost in the mornings and after the gym, although it's worth bearing in mind that they don't stick around as long as bold woody or floral tones.
Within every can of body spray is a powerful hierarchy of scents. With three tiers of various notes, the fragranced formulas can be made up of a multitude of blends. While it can seem fairly complicated at first, the logic behind it is pretty simple, and understanding these tiers will further help you pick the right scent.
The top notes of the fragrance are what you notice immediately after spraying, so they're the ones that create the first impression. They're the lightest scent, and while we smell them first before any other tier, they do fade away relatively quickly.
That said, depending on the body spray, the top note can last between 15 minutes and two hours, so it's still worth making sure the top note is one that appeals to you.
Usually, the top notes will consist of light, citrusy scents such as bergamot, lemon and orange, along with fruits and herbs. The most common scents from fruits and herbs used in men's body spray are ginger, berries, and grapefruit, and basil and geranium.
After you've had a whiff of the top note and it's started to slowly fade away, you'll start to get hints of the middle notes. These notes take up 40-80% of the final fragrance and they can strongly influence the top and the base notes, making them extremely important in the make-up of a scent.
It's always best to have a well-rounded, pleasant smell that isn't too sweet or spicy as it's these scents that are going to be clinging to you for up to five hours of the day.
We recommend sticking to notes of floral tones from daffodils, jasmine, and lavender combined with herbs such as cardamom, coriander, and pepper.
Base notes are the hidden gems that shine through after the top and middle notes have evaporated. Making up 10-25% of the fragrance, they often blend with the middle notes to enhance the scent of the spray.
They can last for up to 10 hours, slowly fading away at the end of the day and leaving the last few traces of fragrance behind, so pick wisely if you want your body spray to carry you into the night. In the base notes, you can often find cedarwood, musk, amber, sandalwood, and patchouli.

We've all owned an Adidas body spray at some point in the past. They're the most versatile option out there; you can throw one in your gym bag, you can keep one in your desk, and you can even buy as many as you need thanks to the super affordable price.
As for the smell, you may surprised to hear that this can contains one of the most complex fragrance blends on our list, with over 15 different scents. Fresh and fruity top notes fade away to a musky middle revealing a refreshing peppery base, making this a great all-rounder for day, night, sports and everything in between.
This one is a step up on the basic body sprays, with a touch of designer branding and a subtle increase in price, though it still stays humble below £20. With hot notes of ginger tamed by the sweet Maninka fruit, this is a bold, daring blend of spicy and sweet.
Once the floral fruitiness has faded away, you'll start to smell hints of black leather with an edge of sophistication. From nights out to nights in, wearing this Hugo Boss body spray at any event will make you feel and smell amazing.
This is an impressive bargain for such a renowned designer brand and we love to see it. As a part of the woody fragrance family, this scent is smoky, musky and rich with peppery top notes making the first impression.
The middle notes of lavender and geranium also provide the perfect balance for the tobacco and cedarwood hints. All in all, this is one rounded, full-body spray with intense fragrances and a mild price. Ted Baker is known for their impressive range of scents and we think this one is a great choice.
With tangy tones of cardamom and coriander, this exotic and sporty body spray is a gym bag essential, although we don't see why you shouldn't wear something so pleasantly fragrant all the time. Bergamot and mandarin pave the path for a rich blend of aromatic spices, rounded off by an elegant musk to finish.
We, amongst many others in the UK, are super impressed with the combination of notes used in this fragrance. It's clear that the cheap price tag is a complete juxtaposition to the three well-thought-out tiers of exquisite, long-lasting scents.
UK brand RockFace's body spray is exactly what you need if you're constantly on the go and you're looking for a way to stay refreshed. The scents are minimal and zesty with a kick of musky amber that shows after around 10 hours of wearing it.
To mask the smell of sweat on a hot summer's day, try this fresh and slightly fruity body spray which is sure to add a bit of zing to your everyday scent. It's a must-have for guys who love to go on outdoor adventures but aren't willing to give up on the small luxury of smelling nice in the process.
Dior's Sauvage is a scent that makes you feel revitalised with an unforgettable range of spicy, flowery notes. Moving from peppery bergamot to blooming lavender, the spray leaves behind a rich whiff of cedarwood and the amber-like fragrance of labdanum.
If you're looking for a body spray that's a little more sophisticated than the average, this is definitely the most affordable luxury product you'll find. Not to mention that Sauvage is one of the most giftable scents on the market, namely because it's practically impossible to not love it!
This is a classy Lacoste fragrance that accurately represents the sophisticated, slightly sporty essence of the brand. Notes of musky vanilla are what linger for the longest, although mandarin and ginger will be what enriches and blends the three stages of smell into a smoky, audacious scent.
This is another one that has been known not to have much staying power, however, so you'll have to reapply it a bit more often. Also, reports from buyers with sensitive skin have claimed that it can be irritating, which is something that you should be aware of.
This is a wildly invigorating boost that will polish you up for any occasion. Victoriously refreshing, this scent is empowering and bold with notes of grapefruit, bay leaves, and amber.
It has an oceanic fragrance which could only be described as a zesty, energising spritzer you're bound to love. Unfortunately, while the scent is truly remarkable, it's been known to fade relatively quickly making the lifetime of this body spray significantly shorter than average.
Sweet grapefruit and orange are what comes to light as the molecules of this spray first hit your nose. After that, it's a peppery patchouli to keep yourself smelling civilised and musky throughout the day.
With a limited range of just six scents, you may find it surprising that this body spray is the most expensive item on our list. Of course, if you know Hermès, you'll be aware of the luxury brand's usual pricing habits and this won't be as much of a surprise. While it really does smell divine, a lot of the price is due to the label.
Geranium and vanilla are what create this delightful blend of sweet, flowery notes. Considering that vanilla is the only secondary scent involved in the make-up of this body spray, we feel that it was merely added to act as a long-lasting scent that will linger long after the geranium has evaporated.
So, with that in mind, if you like the smell of musky vanilla, a legendary bottle of Lynx Africa would be the perfect choice for you. It even claims to stay put for 48 hours. However, if you like to have a more grown-up blend of different aromas, you might prefer to choose a product with a wider range of scents.
While this is a commonly-asked question (especially as some sprays have the word 'deodorant' on the label), a body spray does not have antiperspirant properties. An antiperspirant deodorant works by covering the sweat glands to avoid sweat mixing with bacteria, which is what creates the smell of BO.
A body spray, meanwhile, won't prevent the odour of sweat but it will help to mask it temporarily by clinging to your clothes as opposed to your skin. In addition, body spray is lighter and more subtle than perfume or cologne due to the lower concentration of scent oils. This also makes it significantly cheaper to reapply throughout the day.
All of these factors are what makes a body spray so convenient. You can throw a can of body spray in a bag and know that you're going to smell refreshed for the rest of the day, leaving expensive glass bottles of cologne at home for a more special occasion.
A body spray is a great addition to any bathroom cabinet or wash bag, but for many guys, it's not the only fragrance in their arsenal. Check out our related articles to find antiperspirants, perfumes for special occasions and more, several of which include options in the same range as some of our body spray recommendations.
Body sprays are the decision-maker on people's initial perception of you, and we all know first impressions are the most important! That means that you should really think about which scents match your personality and preferences. Once you've found the right one, you'll feel like a new man.
