When deciding which hot chocolate powder to go for, you’ll want to consider factors like flavour, fat content, and calories, plus whether the ingredients are suitable for your lifestyle. Read on to learn more!
A heads up for vegans or those with dairy allergies though - most white chocolate powders and some (but not all) milk chocolate powders contain milk-derived ingredients. So, make sure you check the ingredients to ensure that the powder you’re eyeing up is suitable for your diet.
However, as this type of powder does usually contain milk powder or milk-derived ingredients, it’s best to avoid if you don’t consume dairy. It's also not as indulgent as regular hot chocolate powder, but it's still handy for when you’ve run out of milk and don’t fancy trekking to the shops!
A cup of tea tends to have around 49 calories if you add one teaspoon of sugar, but many hot chocolate drinks (especially luxury powders) can have double or even triple this amount! So, if you’re trying to lose weight but still want a chocolate fix, you might want to choose a specially designed low-calorie option instead.
The recommended daily amount of sugar for adults is 30g, so if you tend to indulge in other sweet treats throughout the day and don't want to overdo it, opt for a hot chocolate powder without added sugar. Or, you could purchase one that contains natural sweeteners like Erytritol or Stevia instead.
Did you know, you can use some hot chocolate powders to bake with too? Ones that don't contain dairy or added sugar are best, otherwise they can change the structure and texture of baked goods. Check out our favourite brownie recipe below:
If you ask us, there's no better way to enjoy a mug of hot chocolate than to dunk something delicious in it! Check out our favourite crumbly biscuits and crunchy cookies below if you need a spot of snacking inspiration.
