10 Best Posture Correctors UK 2023

For as long as we can remember we’ve been told to watch our posture, be it PE teachers or our parents telling us to stand up straight for a photo. Over time this has only become more difficult, with the majority of us working hunched over a computer and those that aren’t grafting away labouring or taking care of other people.

Well, it’s time we started watching our own backs, and one way to do that is with a posture corrector. Worn as a brace, a bra or a vest, they really work to re-train your body out of its bad habits and relieve back pressure, with long term benefits. To help you out, we’ve found the best posture correctors on the market, all available on trusty sites like Amazon and eBay.

How to Choose a Posture Corrector in the UK – Buying Guide

Right, let’s get to grips with the different factors you should be looking for when picking up a posture corrector. Read on to gain some insight on the different styles available and who they're best suited to, as well as their materials and adjustability methods.

1

Consider the Style of Posture Corrector

There are a few different subsections when it comes to this depending on each manufacturer's take on the design. However, posture correctors can generally be broken down into 4 different groups, which we'll look at next.

Standard Braces Are Best for Those Looking to Treat Injury

Standard Braces Are Best for Those Looking to Treat Injury

Firstly, the standard brace. The largest and bulkiest of our options, it looks like a vest and is worn over the majority of your torso. It will force your chest outward (gently, obviously!) and pull your shoulders in slightly, resulting in a straighter spine.

This style is often used to treat people with injuries, as they offer the best level of support

However, due to their size they're likely to be visible under clothing, so you probably won’t get away with one of these at the office. Also, their large surface area means they could be a bit much for the summer months.

Chest Braces Correct Posture by Supporting Your Lower Back

Next up, chest braces, which come in a a couple of forms: one similar to a standard posture vest without as much bulk and with a lower back strap, or as a supportive bra.

Though often aimed at women who suffer with aches and pains caused by a large bust, because of their placement and design they can also provide support when lifting or hunching, making them perfect for labourers and office workers as well.

As these braces are more minimal than full back supports, you should be able to get away with wearing one under a shirt, blouse, or top.

Posture Straps Are the Most Discreet Wearable Option

Posture straps are the smallest and most discreet wearable option, and are therefore best for the summer months and sticking on under clothes. This style is put on like a backpack, and will allow you to easily adjust it to your body type.

The straps also allow for a greater range of movement, so they’re a good choice if you would like to wear one during a workout. They're mainly used for people who are looking to correct their posture but aren’t suffering from any injuries.

Smart Correctors Work by Giving the User a Vibration to Stop Any Slouching

As with everything these days, even posture correctors are becoming ‘smart’. Smart correctors are small plastic devices which are attached to the spine with a piece of adhesive tape, so they're the least noticeable of all.

They work by giving the user a slight vibration every time they’re slouching, and seem to have surprisingly good success rates.

Being electronic, the downside is that you'll probably end up shelling out a bit more, as they tend to be the most expensive of the options.

2

Pick a Material That Suits When You'll Wear the Product

Finally, good old cotton. Being natural, this will certainly be the softest and most comfortable on your back, and will be easy to wash and maintain. However, cotton designs won't be the stretchiest, which could restrict those planning on labouring or working out in their corrector.

3

Decide Which Adjustability Style You'd Prefer

Decide Which Adjustability Style You'd Prefer

Last but not least, you’ll want to make sure you can adjust your posture corrector. For the benefit of your well-being, we have only included products that have this function, but there are a few different ways this can be done.

Generally, you’ll have a choice between two options: Velcro straps or buckles. Both work in exactly the same way, so you’re not going to get more from one than the other.

Buckles are known to stay in place longer than their strapped counterparts though, which may need repositioning if you're moving around a lot. On the other hand, buckles are much more fiddly than easy-tear Velcro.

Last, but by no means least, this product from Marakym, which is made not only from neoprene but also latex. This gives it that extra bit of give, which results in added comfort. Plus, you get some extras with this purchase such as kinesiology tape, which can be used to treat injuries, and a carry bag.

We also like the slimmed design – it's the most discreet of the manual options making it a great addition to work, gym or loungewear if you so wish. The straps are easy to use too, so you shouldn't need a hand when slipping it on or off. For these reasons, this takes our number 1 spot!

A Well-Made Robust Chest Brace

This chest brace is a wonder, and comes with moveable shoulder pads that will help maintain comfort whilst you're wearing it. Ergonomic steel blades provide the structure to correct your posture, which are encased in a smooth and cosy nylon lining.

One of the most prominent points that users of this product have pointed out is how well it's made. They feel like the quality of the components are sturdy and robust and will, therefore, stand up to plenty of use. And a good price to quality ratio is what we all aim for, right?

Another More Affordable Option for the Gadget Lovers

The original smart posture corrector, the Go has all the ability of the latest model, only at a much lower price. This includes personalised training plans, tracking capabilities, and spare adhesives, too.

While it is slightly bigger and bulkier, it's still very small and discreet compared to any other style of corrector, and has a very respectable 4.1 out of 5 on Amazon. All in all, if you love your gadgets and want to get your posture sorted without wearing a brace, then this looks like the best place to start for us.

Ergonomically Designed to Build Strength

This product from Gearari is ergonomically designed to not only straighten your posture, but to strengthen the shoulders, neck and back muscles so that they can retain said posture in the long term.

Again, it's made from the excellently capable neoprene, so you can rest assured it will be comfortable and ventilated throughout wear. Thanks to its sleek design this product can be worn anywhere, anytime, which makes it an ideal companion for those on the go.

A Strong Brace Created From High-Grade Materials

This easy-to-use brace will help straighten you up and relieve that unwelcome tension that people often find in their necks and shoulders. FITTOO have crafted this from neoprene, which is a remarkably sturdy and breathable synthetic rubber. The Duchess of Cambridge even uses it in her wellies!

Thanks to its lower back strap, it'll also provide support to that region, which we know delivery persons or those who work in offices will appreciate. You might need a hand getting in it initially, but once you've got in and arranged the straps to fit your body, you'll be away.

Longer Length for Targeting Lower Back Pain or Injury

Ideal if you're a heavy sloucher, suffer from lower back pain or are in recovery from an injury, this product from Docat is right up there with the best standard braces around. It's quite a bit longer than others of this style, which means it's capable of providing greater support all the way from the lower back to your neck.

And while the size can be a bit bulky if you don't mind wearing it over your clothes, it's surprisingly comfy thanks to the Velcro straps and the soft neoprene shoulder pads. A word of warning, many reviewers felt it came up a little large, so it would be best (as always) to check the sizing guide before purchasing!

One for the Ladies Who Want Support and Better Posture

This 2-in-1 bra and posture support garment is specifically designed for those who really feel the aches and strains that come with having a larger bust. The unique cross-shaped design at the back adds support as well as encouraging good posture.

It also has super comfy wide straps, so as well as helping your back, it won't strain your shoulders or neck either. And to top it off, it's available in a huge range of sizes (both UK and European) to fit every body and bust.

Perfect for Those That Are Looking to Nip Their Bad Posture in the Bud Early

This comfortable posture corrector from Modetero keeps things simple. It has straps that are slipped over your shoulders and aligned with the spine, which are then gradually tightened until you feel comfortable – but not so comfy that you slouch, of course!

This style is perfect for wearing under clothes, so you can easily stick it on while you're at the office or doing a workout. While it's fully adjustable and works where it is supposed to, there's a small concern in that some users claimed the pressure was re-distributed towards the neck.

A Gadget With Some Impressive Statistics Behind It

The latest gadget in posture world, the Go 2 from Upright, claims that 8 out of 10 people find an improvement of 92% in less than 2 weeks! Simply connect to the app and it will provide you with a personalised training program that sets you daily goals to improve your posture.

It also boasts a 30 hour battery life, though this does depend on usage. There are a couple of negatives, though, the price tag being one. Secondly, while it comes with an initial 19 adhesive sticky straps, if you plan on using this long term you're going to have fork out for more sooner or later.

A Standard Brace With a Wide Range of Movement

Getting us underway is this standard brace from Ms Dear. The full-body figure-of-8 design slides on like a backpack, and lightly encourages your shoulders and back to form the proper alignment. As far as full braces go, this is rather more freeing, and should still allow you to complete most normal daily tasks.

The downside is that many reviewers found that the straps around the waist have to be very tight to make a difference, which is somewhat unfortunate because if it's not comfortable, you're less likely to wear it!

Tips for Using a Posture Corrector

Tips for Using a Posture Corrector

So, how long should you be wearing your posture corrector for? And how long until you notice the effects?

As always, we'd advise checking the product information for the specifics, as depending on the style of support and intended use it will most likely vary.

Generally, it's recommended to start with between 20 and 60 minutes per day for a couple of weeks as per your own comfort level and the manufacturer's guidelines. Then, you can increase by 20-30 minutes from there. After a couple of months of wear, you should begin to feel an improvement!

Summary

Using our guide, we think you should be able to find a product that'll keep your posture straight and your back, neck and shoulders pain-free, no matter where you plan on using it. We hope you've found our recommendations useful!
