10 Best Fire Pits UK 2023

Fire pits are the epitome of a perfect night spent outdoors with friends and family. They provide heat, light and a cosy atmosphere and can even be used for BBQs and cooking if they include a table or grill. However, most aren't intended for decking or other flammable surfaces, so bear that in mind when you're planning your fire pit seating ideas!

You'll find fire pits made from stone, iron or steel and fuelled by gas, coals, or as a wood burner, so to help you decipher which to go for we've been through sites like Amazon and eBay to find the best products by reliable brands. The best bit? You can have them delivered right to your garden with just a few clicks.

How to Choose a Fire Pit in the UK

Key Points to Consider
  1. Enclosed Pits Are Great for Kids, but Bowl-Shapes Make a Social Centrepiece
  2. If You Want Your Fire Pit to Last, Look For Durable Materials
  3. Propane Gas is Quick and Easy, Wood and Coal are Traditional and Cosy
  4. Consider a Countertop Fire Pit vs a Permanent Placement Investment

Enclosed Pits Are Great for Kids, but Bowl-Shapes Are the Perfect Centrepieces for Socialising

Enclosed Pits Are Great for Kids, but Bowl-Shapes Are the Perfect Centrepieces for Socialising

Fire pits aren't just loved for their practicality – they also add to the decor of your garden to make it more homely. The design you go for may be down to your own tastes, but some will be more suitable for your intended use than others.

For instance, placing a bowl-shaped fire pit in the middle of a group of garden chairs is the perfect centrepiece for lush summer evenings. However, an enclosed basket may better suit households with children or pets. Alternatively, if you have a family who loves a BBQ dinner, you may wish to consider a fire pit table.

If You Want Your Fire Pit to Last, Look For Durable Materials Like Stainless Steel, Cast Iron or a Mix of Fibreglass and Concrete

If You Want Your Fire Pit to Last, Look For Durable Materials Like Stainless Steel, Cast Iron or a Mix of Fibreglass and Concrete

Make sure that you get to enjoy the luxuries of a fire pit for as long as possible by checking the material used to make it. The best materials to look out for are stainless steel, cast iron, or a combination of concrete and fibreglass. All of these materials are long-lasting, durable in harsh weather conditions, and they don't rust easily.

In general, steel is much lighter than iron so will make for a more portable fire pit. You'll notice that very decorative or detailed concrete and fibreglass fire pits will cost a fair bit more than a standard stainless steel design.

Propane Gas Makes Lighting the Fire Quick and Easy, but Wood and Coal Create a Traditional, Cosy Atmosphere

Propane Gas Makes Lighting the Fire Quick and Easy, but Wood and Coal Create a Traditional, Cosy Atmosphere

The fire pits on our list can be fuelled by propane gas, coal, and wood. Choose the right fuel by first checking out your surroundings, budget, and set up

  • Propane gas is best suited to semi-permanent fire pits. While you'll have to ensure you have the space to store the tank, they are very easy to install and light up instantly with zero effort.

  • Wood is nostalgic in looks and aroma. Wood generates a lot of heat which is ideal for garden gatherings even when the weather gets chillier. You'll need a dry storage area to keep your woodpile close to hand and ready to use.

  • Coal is a traditional choice and best for BBQ fire pits. Like the wood-fired ones, coal fire pits need refilling after each use (a messy job!) so you'll have to keep up with your fuel stocks.

Don't forget, you may need to use firelighters to get your fire started!

4

If You’d Prefer a Countertop Fire Pit, Keep It Under 5 KG, but Pits Over 30 KG Are Perfect for Permanent Placements

If You’d Prefer a Countertop Fire Pit, Keep It Under 5 KG, but Pits Over 30 KG Are Perfect for Permanent Placements

Take a look out of your window and try and figure out your preferred spot for your new fire pit, as this will help you choose the appropriate size and weight. You should think about whether you'd like it to go on the floor, and if so, which, or perhaps on a table top.

If you do want to use your fire pit as a centrepiece, make sure that it weighs no more than 5 kg, and check that its size will properly fit on the surface you want to place it on. In addition, if the pit weighs over 30 kg, it's more of a semi-permanent fixture so you should make sure that it's placed somewhere it can stay throughout the whole year.
