Celeste's Top 10 Work-From-Home Essentials for Coffee Lovers

Celeste's Top 10 Work-From-Home Essentials for Coffee Lovers

Although our lives have been massively disrupted this year, one thing certainly hasn't: our love for coffee! While grabbing a delicious latte or cappuccino on the way to work would have been the norm for many, with many of us in the UK working from home that hasn't been an option, meaning we've all had to up our at-home coffee game.

We asked Celeste at @the_girl_in_the_cafe, actress, barista and fellow coffee-lover, for her personal essential items for working from home, both related and unrelated to coffee, because to her, coffee is a lifestyle. Listed as one of London's top five baristas by The Financial Times, Celeste's Instagram, YouTube, website and more are the places to go for serious coffee, food, and lifestyle inspiration! Read on to discover her favourite WFH items.
  • Melitta
    Cremio Milk Frother
    £64.99

The Melitta Cremio is a product I've had and been using for about three years now! I love it so much that I bought one for my brother and sister because they have kids who love babyccinos and hot chocolates. But I like hot chocolates, too!

This jug is convenient and really simple to use and clean. It heats and froths your milk at the same time and comes out perfectly textured like cappuccino froth. There is a button to just heat the milk too, with minimal froth. If you hold the button down, it also froths the cold milk and doesn't heat it, which I lately discovered is fantastic for summertime iced lattes either over iced espresso or cold brew!

If you have a Nespresso machine with no milk frother attached or use a stovetop then this is perfect for making flat whites, cappuccinos and lattes. As it's freemoving with no tubes, it's much easier to clean than attached milk frothers. You simply fill the jug with milk, place the lid on top and press a button. Then afterwards rinse it out. It also froths most oat milks wonderfully! I've tried many different plant-based milks out on this product!
  • Evergreen
    Reusable Capsule for Nespresso
    £26.00

Nespresso machines and similar are so widely popular, due to their speed and convenience. However, I've always had a bit of a problem with both coffee quality and the negative environmental aspects of the capsules themselves. But over the past two years, I've been replacing my household and beauty products with natural, sustainable products, which has been a long process.

Coffee capsules have had a bad rap and rightly so. Not only is the coffee used in many capsules awful to drink, but up until recently even though capsules are widely recyclable you still have to separate the capsules, put the lid in one bin, the case in another and then put the used grinds in the compost. It's quite a process for something that is supposed to make coffee drinking convenient! The other problem with recyclable capsules is that the rubbish services are inconsistent and often only available in certain areas.

These Evergreen Capsules are a great alternative to help you use your coffee pod machine forever without the bad conscience. They are completely reusable, but the thing I love most about this option (apart from the obvious environmental benefits) is that you can choose high-quality speciality coffees from independent roasters! You are no longer bound to the companies who produce the coffee for you. You can change your beans and have a more varied and interesting cup!
  • Ember
    Ember Mug²: Metallic Collection
    £129.95

Ember is the hot new tech cup for coffee lovers who hate their coffee going cold. It's a self-heated smart mug! A few too many times I've gotten distracted and come back to a cold coffee! So this cup is great. If you like tech products this is a good one for you.

They come in black or white but also fancy metallic colours; I have the gold one. You can set your desired temperature on the Ember App on your smartphone and have a range of drinks with temperatures that you can preset. It will show you with a light if you need to recharge the battery, which you can do by putting it on the charging placemat. Chic and practical, and also will come in handy over the winter for mulled wine and warm rum!
  • Four Store
    Capsule Terrarium by NIWA Design
    £315.00

If you're working from home or in a regular workspace, I think it's very important to have plants! They set a good vibe and generally make me feel good. Though I am very forgetful sometimes about watering them, so Terreriams are an excellent option.

I love the shop Four Store. Their original shop was in Brick Lane but they have now opened a beautiful store in Notting Hill. The plants are a little indulgent, but they're not going to die and you hardly need to water them. Like, almost never! They're breathtakingly beautiful and give off a calming effect. Mine has a tiger stone in it for 'focus'!
  • Sage
    the Barista Pro™
    £699.95

This is the perfect machine for a beginner to moderate home barista. I have tested it out and it is very good. It has a 3-second heat-up time which is very quick and for the affordable price of around £600, the quality of the output is excellent.

It has a built-in grinder which saves you money because compatible and high-quality grinders can cost up to £700 alone! It steams perfect cafe-style textured milk and is a great compact addition for any kitchen. I like the Barista Pro because it really makes cafe-style coffees at home very accessible.
  • Melitta
    EPOS Coffee Machine
    £299.99

I have been lucky enough to test trial this automatic coffee filter machine ahead of its release to the market. It has recently been released and I love it. It is part of Melitta's new luxury line consisting mainly of chic black and metallics.

What I love about this is that it is simple with easy-to-use touch buttons, and that the water disperser rotates, mimicking that of a barista physically pouring water over coffee grinds. It has a hot plate that keeps your coffee warm for 40 minutes so you can make a full jug and drink it later. It also has an in-built grinder that has three grind settings, so it's like an all-in-one filter machine! I use it most mornings before I start work or go for a morning walk.
  • One Click Coffee
    Filter Coffee Subscription Box
    £25.00

There are many coffee subscriptions out there, but one I always like to follow is One Click Coffee run by one very on-to-it lady. What I love about their subscription service is that every month they change the coffee roasters. So you get two new and different bags of coffee every month, often with an edible treat. They do their research and always choose really interesting speciality coffee roasters who offer great coffees (yes, my own "The Girl in the Cafe" coffee has been featured in their package before!).

But they also go that step further and produce a short zine with interesting interviews with their roasters and recipes to try. Perfect reading while sipping your brew. They can grind the coffee for you and there are other options too if you don't want to commit to their subscription service. However, it's a professional service that'll save you time researching and putting through orders. It'll turn up every month and get you through the month so you can focus on other things - like work, family and HOW you're going to make your next coffee!

  • Black Box
    Aeropress
    £29.00

The AeroPress is one of the most convenient, compact and reliable coffee makers around. I've taken mine around the world with me to make sure I'm never caught out. It uses air pressure to brew and extract your coffee. If you are just making coffee for yourself in the morning and don't have much time, this is a great option for one person. Also, it doesn't take up much space, so if you're living in a small apartment, this could be a good option that saves bench space over a batch brewer or espresso machine.

I would suggest my go-to recipe which uses 20 grams of coffee with a medium grind: fill the AeroPress up with water (about 250ml) and leave for 1.5 minutes. Then press down... you have your cup of coffee! Afterwards, just unscrew the cap and push the coffee puck out!

It is great to take travelling or if you are a camper or are doing short trips, or going home for the holidays. It usually comes with filter papers, but a great option I love is using a reusable metal filter. I love these both so much I actually sell them in my small online shop (though the AeroPresses just sold out!). So check out this link if you like! (UK only)
  • KANKAN
Hand Wash Mandarin & Clary Sage
    £15.00

These have nothing to do with coffee, but they are a product that I absolutely love in the home and in cafe bathrooms. Not only are they natural, non-toxic and greywater safe but they smell absolutely incredible. Especially at a time where we are washing our hands so often, this is probably the best hand soap I've ever smelt which always makes going back to your laptop a little sweeter (or citrusy!). They do other products like body wash and baby soap too.

Their bottles are glass and their refills are in quirky but thoughtful (recyclable) cans because they really focus on sustainability from start to finish and even plant a tree whenever a can is sold! The company is based in east London and Australia.
  • CAFE CONCETTO
    Reusable Coffee Cup
    £24.29

I use my Cafe Concetto tumbler literally every day - I've also been lucky enough to travel to NZ, USA and Portugal this year through the pandemic. So it's been great to have my own cup that I know is mine to take on walks or whenever I go anywhere! It looks unique and is a sustainable option.

I love them because they are very robust (made from metal) but aren't heavy, feel nice in your hand but the best thing is that they keep hot things hot for a long long time without affecting taste, and they keep cold drinks really cold! In NZ it got cold so I would take my hot coffee with me on morning walks and fill it with hot water at night to keep me warm and of course throughout the day with coffee when I was working from home.

In Los Angeles, it was really hot. So I drank mainly cold brew and iced drinks during the day and it meant I could sip on a strong brew or take it in the car with me without the ice melting! Incredible! There's nothing worse than drinking a hot coffee and it going cold, or coffee that's meant to be cold, that melts to room temperature! It's also great for keeping cocktails cold (after-work drinks of course).
