Emily's Top 10 Essential Snacks for Readers

Emily's Top 10 Essential Snacks for Readers

'I could go on and on about my snack obsession - I am always snacking! I found it really difficult to narrow it down to just ten. I have ten favourite chocolates as it is, but I've kept the chocolates to just two on this list and tried to add a few snacks you might not have considered before.

I mean I'm not reinventing the wheel here, they're all bookstagram favourites, but these are the ultimate top ten essential snacks for readers, taking easy to eat whilst reading into consideration always. It can't be just me that considers that as well?'

The Breakfast Book Club's Emily has once again written a glorious list for us. This time, she thought about the best snacks for readers to added that extra layer of comfort. From Tony's Chocolonely to Krispy Kreme - this is the most comprehensive snack list that you will ever read with some truly unique pairings.

  • Tony's Chocolonely
    Chocolate Bars

    Emily Woosey

So there is a running theme in this post - chocolate is my number one snack of all time. But if you're a self-confessed chocoholic as I am then you'll agree that each chocolate is different and deserves its very own spot on the list!

So we will start with Tony's Chocolonely - this doesn't last two minutes in my house and we actually refer to it as 'the good stuff' so I think that tells you everything you need to know about the chocolate and me!

The flavours are unrivalled. This chocolate is so creamy but not too rich - it's perfect and completely fair trade with the goal of ending slavery in the chocolate industry. The only problem is we do not get all of the flavours in the UK so if you're in Europe make the most of it!
  • Macarons & More
    Luxury Box of Mixed Macarons

    Emily Woosey

I had never had macarons until a trip to Paris in 2019 and whilst I have found it difficult getting macarons as good as the Ladurée ones I have made it my personal mission to find the best replacements!

Whilst these make a perfect snack they're also so moreish - you can never just have one! The downside is I can guarantee there's always one flavour left at the end, for me, it's the green ones which are usually pistachio.

They're nice but they don't live up to the rose flavour! The box I've linked here is incredible - you get six flavours: Rose, Pistachio, Praline, Salted Caramel, Chocolate Orange and Vanilla. Even the pistachio one here doesn't last long!
  • Haribo
    Starmix Multipack

    Emily Woosey

I was going to give my number three spot to sweets but when I came to think about it all of the best sweets are Haribo - Starmix, Giant Strawbs, Jelly Babies and Tangfastics. You don't get any better than a Haribo!

They're actually really good mixed in with popcorn and M&Ms (number eight on the list) for a sugar-filled snack! I've linked a multipack here full of the mini packets you'd get at a school disco. The little packs might not seem like much but they stop me from eating a share bag to myself in the space of ten minutes!
  • Doritos
    Crisps

    Emily Woosey

I feel like the best crisp is such a controversial question - I asked my boyfriend what one crisp he'd have for the rest of his life he said Thai Sweet Chilli Sensations, which in my opinion, is such a waste. I could write a top ten crisp flavours (don't worry I won't), but I'll definitely give you my top three: Cheese and Onion Walkers, Doritos Lightly Salted (don't @ me - they're versatile), and a classic Disco.

Each crisp has its own purpose: Cheese and Onion Walkers on a sandwich are top tier, whilst Doritos make nachos which is a winning snack on its own. So in short - whatever your favourite crisp make it your next reading snack!
  • Krispy Kreme
    Favourites Double Dozen

    Emily Woosey

I find it hard to believe there are people in the world who hate doughnuts?? Especially when there are so many great options to choose from!

I've linked the Krispy Kreme Favourites Double Dozen here because they are such firm favourites! It includes Caramel Sensation, Lotus Biscoff, Nutty Chocolatta, Original Glazed Ring, Chocolate Sprinkles Ring, Strawberry Iced Ring, Caramel Iced Ring and Original Filled Kreme Ring! There is bound to be something you like!

My personal favourite is the Lotus Biscoff - I'm not really a fan of ring doughnuts. If I'm having a doughnut I don't want a big space in the middle!
  • Lindt
    Lindor Assorted Chocolate Truffles

    Emily Woosey

I don't think an occasion goes by where I do not get boxes and boxes of these as gifts and I am not complaining. These are the ultimate mini luxury - Lindt is the optimum luxury chocolate in my eyes.

I love that you can buy mixed flavoured boxes now as well as the newer flavours such as Orange, Mint and Strawberries and Cream. I also think these make a perfect breakfast topping - a little much for the morning, yes, but as a treat on oats or pancakes, it is amazing! I've linked the mixed box here because variety is the spice of life - isn't it?
  • The Skinny Food Co.
    Hazelnut Praline Syrup

    Emily Woosey

Is coffee a snack? I think so! I've linked some of my favourite coffee syrups here as well because as a mid-afternoon pick me up at home, a hazelnut latte really is the to go!

I always go for the sugar free version at home, which now means that whenever I get a hazelnut latte at a coffee shop the syrup tastes so sweet - and this is coming from the girl who has just admitted to putting Lindt balls on her breakfast!

Also - if you drink as much of this stuff as me you're going to want a sugar free version! My personal favourite flavours are hazelnut, french vanilla, and gingerbread, which is mainly available at Christmas but a favourite year round!
  • Proper Corn | M&Ms
    Popcorn and M&Ms

    Emily Woosey

One thing I've missed more than I ever thought I would, is going to the cinema and eating sweet popcorn with M&Ms mixed in. It's the simple things in life!

So every now and then I've been recreating it at home - most recently for the Line of Duty final which let's be honest was a waste of popcorn but that's for another day. You can't beat this combination it's always a winner.

So one day I decided to mix it up ad have it as a reading snack and it's an absolute game-changer. You don't need M&Ms, though, whatever your favourite chocolate is, just chop it up and mix it in! You won't regret it!
  • Warburtons
    Cinnamon And Raisin Bagels

    Emily Woosey

An ode to bagels will be the name of my memoir. They should be further up this list but since they're also classed as a meal they've made the number nine spot!

I love classic bagels with cream cheese, or humous and red peppers maybe add a little feta and rocket. But that is edging into the meal territory, as a snack, I prefer a cinnamon and raisin bagel with yoghurt, fruit and a little honey. It might sound like breakfast but it's a perfect mid-morning snack! Even if you were to just have a cinnamon bagel buttered it's such an easy and relatively healthy snack to make!
  • Betty Crocker
    Rainbow Chip Party Cake Mix

    Emily Woosey

My favourite food of all time is cake - specifically birthday cake. I will make anyone a birthday cake as long as they share it! I actually took up running in 2020 purely because I'd ate so much cake so this is no surprise! What is a surprise is that it has only just edged its way in at number 10!

One of my favourite things to do is have a cup of tea and a slice of cake and read my book. I am definitely old before my time! I've linked a cake mix kit which is the best one I've found - I actually made this for a friends birthday and convinced them I'd made it from scratch (I came clean a week later!) so this is definitely one to have in case of cake-related emergencies.
